Watching American Idol Tour
After leaving the Blues Cruise, we headed home for a bite to eat and to get ready to walk across the Broadway Bridge to the Rose Quarter to see the first of the American Idol 50 city tour. We had never watched the show before this year and at the last minute decided to go to the show and see everyone. Our seats were WAY up high. Turns out we sat right next to big winner Chris’s neighbors who had visited him in his Portland Hotel Monaco room and even had dinner with him the night before. I saw pictures on the camera of the guy next to me of Chris poising with them. We all complained about the drunk, continuously drinking girls in front of us and the screaming kids behind us. Should have custom ear plugs made in the future…. Here is one review and here is the review from the Oregonian.

Here are Chris's friends from Arkansas. The couple closest to me live in Eugene, but are moving to Portland soon. They learned that all the Idols are given only a total of 14 free tickets for their entire 50 city tour. Chris wasn't about to give up some on the first day of the tour. He needed to save them for his home town, I imagine.

Megan Joy looked good anyway. I kind of like her odd nasal sound, but not her singing enough to hear for long or to buy a CD.

Anoop Desai was one of the standouts. Lots of his fans were there. For his last song, he put on his glasses, so he could see the crowd.

The set was simple, with use of colored light changes, and digital backgrounds, a trap door, plus the ubiquitous stage smoke.
