Friends From Portsmouth Middle School

My friend, Mary Shaw (former Special Ed teacher), and her husband, KC, told me last night at Portland Center Stage that today at 4 pm teachers from Portsmouth Middle School would be gathering at 5th Quadrant for happy hour. I figured I would try to get there especially to see Mary Bordner, Principal’s Secretary. I enjoyed talking with her in the office when I worked there as the Speech Language Pathologist. Now the school is K-8 and is called Clarendon-Portsmouth.

When I arrived, Mary and KC were already there. We wondered if people were going to show up. But they eventually arrived. Here is Mary.
She ordered the hummus plate, which she shared. The rest of us just had colas, wine and beer.

When I was at Portsmouth, Ed (far left) taught there. Next to him is the Joanne Barta, Student Management Specialist, and in the blue, the counselor, Michelle Peake. Both of them seemed like people I would like to hang out with and would have been great to work with.

KC and Mary drove to the pub early and went for an hour walk around the neighborhood. They are in great shape and recently registered to take part in Paddle Oregon.

Looks to me like that gentleman is wearing a University of Minnesota sweatshirt. ;-)

    Jared,
You are correct! KC went to the University of Minnesota. Mary wonders how you were able to figure that out.
The top of the letters don’t make sense to me, so it must really be the colors. Tell me.
Is that where you received your BS degree?

The colors were the main clue but the lettering looked correct too. I’ve got the hooded version of that same sweatshirt so I know it well.
Yes, that’s where I got my BS.

Palm Springs looked fantastic, beautiful winter home.
