Halloween in Prescott on Mt. Vernon St.
Tuesday, I flew to Phoenix and took a shuttle van to Prescott to visit Scott, Shana and grand-kidss, Madison and Max. I am jumping a bit here to share with your our Halloween night.
Last night we went to the BIG Halloween event in Prescott where EVERYONE walks up Mt. Vernon Street and goes door to door for treats and the experience of each unique historic house.
Back seat is ready for Halloween! We decided to head to the heart of down town Prescott and see what all the fuss is about every year about going up and down Mt. Vernon Street. The street is blocked off for many streets while hundred and hundreds of locals go house to house.
Cool historic houses are decorated to the hilt and NOT helped by the city to accommodate all the ghouls and ghosts that go asking Trick or Treat. I just learned the home owners are on their own for this (see comment below).
I couldn't tell if I should take pictures with or without flash.

Each house went to lots of work with their decorations.

Night Night
One of the houses is ours. We have lived on Mt Vernon Ave for the past 4 Halloweens and have participated willingly. However, the City does not supply us with candy and each of us spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $400 to $500 for trick or treaters. While some can afford this, others can not and must sit at home that night in the dark. Perhaps the City supplemented residents with candy in the past, but they certainly do not now.
Just wanted to set the record straight as we hear this “urban legend” all the time around Halloween.
Thank you for the clarification. We are not locals. Son and daughter in Prescott for 22 months while she attends Embry Riddle. I was visiting. The city certainly should help all of you out.
Don’t get me wrong–we love Halloween here and hope you keep coming back. The City does support us by closing off the street, making it safer for everyone. We think we have between 3,000 and 4,000 children each year. We have a party each year and our friends often bring candy, so this year we had a couple of packages left over which we will donate to a local women’s shelter.
Hope to see you again next year. We were the mauve house with the huge bat over the front porch and I always dress as the tooth fairy.
