Soul for a Summer Concert

Linda Hornbuckle and the Divas of Soul were featured at one of the many free summer concerts. This one we could not miss!

It was a perfect day for a concert. Linda Hornbuckle is often at Jimmy Maks, not far from our home. Janice Scroggins is on the keyboard.

Channel 8 even did a feature on the news about it.

Robert and I had great seats up front and enjoyed our sandwiches and wine.

LaRhonda Steele was also a thrill to listen to.

Perfect Place for Lunch, Who Knew?

I went to Kaiser Permanente today for a blood draw and I noticed the lunch special coming up tomorrow is Lime Cilantro Chicken. Yum. A few weeks ago, I was there to see my ENT and saw that that day’s special was a Vegetarian Turkish Casserole. I was so intrigued I hung around until it was put out! I also could have had the stuffed chicken. Man, maybe I can get a job there so I can have those fab meals.

Look at what all is in the casserole. Also included Brussels sprouts.

Gorgeous.

The baked stuffed chicken breasts look like another great choice.

Fish to the left, and some sides, not included two salads.

For my side, I selected the broccoli salad.Wonderful combination.

Al Fesco for Gourmet Group

The avocado mouse appetizer I brought was a hit at our newly joined gourmet couples group. I got the recipe from a Salem friend, Anne.

The tables were set up on David and Susan's back patio.

My second effort at this appetizer was a success. Once I knew to oil the mold, it all came out beautifully.

David grilled the chicken, but I didn't find the recipe.

Jeri, Rick, and Charlie chat about the summer.

Robert and Kurt oblige me for a photo.

Susan and David's Vizsla dog could carry two tennis balls in her mouth and loved fetching balls thrown down the back yard. Here Robert gives Flanders a pat.

Blood Orange and Blue Cheese Salad.

Peggy made "Maryanne's Tian of Basil" which was fabuous. I thought the basil was actually chard or kale. Find the recipe at the Oregonian's FOODday. It uses zucchini, basil and tomatoes for those with a bumper crop.

My plate.

Very Berry Sherbet and Martha Stewart's Madeleines were made by Eleanor. I've never made sherbet or madeleines, but I still have time....

It was a lovely evening with wonderful food and good fellowship. Next gathering will be in October.
