Al Fesco for Gourmet Group

The avocado mouse appetizer I brought was a hit at our newly joined gourmet couples group. I got the recipe from a Salem friend, Anne.

The tables were set up on David and Susan's back patio.

My second effort at this appetizer was a success. Once I knew to oil the mold, it all came out beautifully.

David grilled the chicken, but I didn't find the recipe.

Jeri, Rick, and Charlie chat about the summer.

Robert and Kurt oblige me for a photo.

Susan and David's Vizsla dog could carry two tennis balls in her mouth and loved fetching balls thrown down the back yard. Here Robert gives Flanders a pat.

Blood Orange and Blue Cheese Salad.

Peggy made "Maryanne's Tian of Basil" which was fabuous. I thought the basil was actually chard or kale. Find the recipe at the Oregonian's FOODday. It uses zucchini, basil and tomatoes for those with a bumper crop.

My plate.

Very Berry Sherbet and Martha Stewart's Madeleines were made by Eleanor. I've never made sherbet or madeleines, but I still have time....

It was a lovely evening with wonderful food and good fellowship. Next gathering will be in October.

Mexican Equestrian Culture

We attended the grand opening of the Oregon Historical Society’s show titled: Arte en la Carreria.

July 31, 2010 – October 24, 2010. The Artisanship of the Mexican Equestrian Culture offers a unique view of the culture surrounding the charro, or Mexican cowboy. The exhibit features over 300 stunning objects, showcasing intricate and ornate artistry.

Food, margaritas and dancers were there for our enjoyment in addition to the special exhibit.

Concert in the Park with Friends.

Northwest Concerts brings us Thursday concerts in our area. All over the Portland Metro region there are concerts throughout the week. The first one we attended was at Wallace Park at 25th and Raleigh. On stage was the Vagabond Opera (Bohemian cabaret). I made a rosemary olive oil cake that was a hit at the picnic. It went well with the wine with its rosemary savory and chocolate sweetness combination.

My cake wasn't even completely cooled by the time people ate it, which made it even better.

I got there before any one else and tried to save as large a spot as possible.

Pat chatted with Randy and got caught up on the family.

Holly, Colleen and Marie.

The Rosemary Olive Oil cake was going fast.

Plenty of nourishment for one and all.
